====================
Axel picked up this set of Tractics. It stands to reason that this was probably the first release of Tractics from Tactical Studies Rules; that is, between the Guidon black boxes and booklets that Gygax took with him when he left Guidon Games and when Gygax's own brown boxes bearing the updated Tactical Studies Rules labels and information. Several TSR sets of Tractics have been found with Guidon books in them. There must have point at TSR when the leftover Guidon black boxes ran out and the new woodgrain brown boxes were not yet available. The presence of a brown flip-top box accounts for this moment, suggesting a first, if unlabeled, release.
